Figure skater Johnny Weir has come in for a lot of crap during this year’s Olympics. First the PETA jerks took him to task for using animal fur in his outfits, then a bunch of a-hole broadcasters started making jokes about his sexuality and even floated the idea that he needs to undergo a gender test to confirm his maleness (what is he, a South African runner?). Rather than sit there and quietly endure these insults, Weir decided to hold a press conference and speak in a frank and heartfelt manner about the situation. I’d say he put the haters in their place pretty effectively. You go girl!

Not only is Johnny Weir a man, but he is an open, honest, true-to-himself man; one that this straight woman finds quite attractive, inside and out!
There is a lot of rudeness out there. This is a class act that shows that the rude people are really pretty infantile and should be ashamed of themselves. And the same thing for all those that listen and find humor in the hurting others. The broadcasters should be punished.

I guess not the special olympics since he’s pretty good but he does have a genetic disorder… Yes, if homosexuality is genetic then it is a disorder… That doesn’t make them bad or wrong though.
Question is if future medicine can “cure” that flawed gene will we allow it to be treated.
For those of you annoyed by my comments how many parents in this world ever plan or hope that their unborn child will be homosexual? I guarantee very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very few.

John M, homosexuality may be genetic, but it is not a disorder. A disorder indicates that one cannot function normally under normal circumstances, and gay men and women can in fact function quite normally, and even exceptionally despite living in a social world where they are considered “flawed” individuals.
I am a parent, when my children were born their sexuality as adult had never entered my mind, because it was irrelevant to the love that I have for them. I don’t see how you can make such a guarantee. You don’t say whether you have any children, but if you do, I would re-consider if their happiness and sense of self-worth are worth the risk of you being squeamish of their fate.

I don’t doubt that you love your children, and that they are deserving of love regardless of sexuality. However, by your definition of “disorder”, homosexuality definitely falls under that category. I would say that having such a huge barrier to reproducing is a pretty big problem.

It’s only a barrier if one wants to reproduce. And even then, it isn’t a barrier, because being gay doesn’t mean being infertile, and being gay doesn’t mean one can’t be a parent. I stand by my statement. Homosexuality is not a disorder.
