World of Warcraft, Warlords of Draenor: What to Expect

During Blizzcon last week, Blizzard announced the expansion for the wildly popular, record breaking MMO, World of Warcraft. Warlords of Draenor will be the 5th expansion in the Warcraft saga, and will feature a plethora of changes for players who may have found the game a bit stale after 9 years of game play.

New Character Models

It’s about time Blizzard upgraded the character models. I’m an old school gamer, and played Everquest for several years. The one thing that changed EQ forever was the upgraded models, they went from blocky-basic toons, to refined and detailed. World of Warcraft started with refined models back in 2004, but 9 years later, it’s finally time for an upgrade.

Boost to Level 90

This is a hot button topic amongst gamers, because if you are a purist, you hate the fact that anybody can start the game at level 90. It waters down the game and brings with it, all kinds of problems. Do you really want to run a dungeon with a priest who boosted to 90, who doesn’t know a damn thing about healing? On the other hand, who really wants to start at level 1 and try to get to level 90 just to see new content, because let’s face it, unless you’re a masochist or my good friend Jonathan, leveling sucks.

This is what I am excited about the most. Personal garrisons that the player can upgrade as they play, is just what this game needed to bring back jaded players like myself. It adds a neat aspect, kind of like the farm in Half Hill from Mists of Pandaria, WoW’s 4th expansion. I sincerely hope that you can attack other player’s garrisons on PVP servers, else why even have them. So far, it seems that players will be able to build a following inside their garrisons that the player can send out on missions, and even have them do tasks while the player has logged out. This will truly be an ever evolving game. My wife has already named her garrison, “Bessie’s Town”.

Meet and Battle Alongside Mythic Heroes From Warcraft Lore

As a lore hound, this is really exciting. One thing I have always appreciated from the developers of WoW, is the fact that as a player, I get to interact with legends from the Warcraft cannon, such as Illidan, Arthas, and even Chen Stormstout, Blizzard continues this trend in Warlords of Draenor, as we will get to see such Orc legends like Kargath Bladefist, the nefarious Gul’dan, the legendary Grommash Hellscream, and even the father of the Thrall, Durotan.

Draenor Before the Shattering

If you played WoW’s first expansion, The Burning Crusade, then you will recognize the map of Draenor, as it is what Outland looked like before the Shattering. Interesting path taken by the developers here, as going back to a world that players have already conquered could either backfire, or really be a huge hit; I’m betting on the latter. I thoroughly  enjoyed The Burning Crusade and the lore behind it, and can’t wait to travel back in time to see Draenor in all of its glory.

What are you most excited to see? let me know in the comments below, and I will address your questions in the next Round-Up. Check back here for more updates, as I will breakdown each and every announcement Blizzard makes regarding Warlords of Draenor.
