If you watch any kind of sports, then you are probably familiar with the Walk-Off Homerun. Well, University of Arkansas’ Michael Qualls wants to introduce you to the Walk-Off Putback Dunk. last night the Razorbacks welcomed the University of Kentucky Wildcats to Bud Walton Arena. Arkansas was still reeling from an overtime loss to Florida, which broke a 23 game wining streak in BWA.
Arkansas is very tough to beat in Fayetteville, but most “experts” had the Hogs losing to the #13th ranked Wildcats. The game was a very closely officiated contest, with over 50 fouls called between the two teams. The Razorbacks held a three point lead in regulation, when the Cats tied the game and sent it to overtime with an uncontested three pointer.
The two teams battled back and forth through the overtime period, with Arkansas barely holding on to a 3 point lead. Once again, Kentucky answered the call with a huge three that tied the game. Arkansas’ Rashad Madden took the ball and drove the length of the court, only to be trapped at the top of the three point line by two Kentucky defenders.
With under seven seconds to play, Madden tried to get free but couldn’t and had to settle for a long three. As Madden shot, Michael Qualls began to make his approach to the basket. Two Kentucky defenders had their backs to Qualls and he was uncontested, as he grabbed the rebound high off the rim, and emphatically slammed the shot home to give the Hogs the win. Thus the Walk-off Putback Dunk was born.
