Welcome back to World of Warcraft Throwback Thursday! Today’s throwback is all about the Scourge Invasion event. In June of 2006, Blizzard introduced a 40 man raid instance named Naxxramas, the citadel of Kel’thuzad. Several Necropolises appeared above various zones all throughout the world map. Both Horde and Alliance had several quests to defeat the spawns of undead that guarded the Necropolis shards. Doing so would grant Argent Dawn rep, which went down in WoW history as one of the most challenging rep grinds introduced in the game.
In 2008, Blizzard reintroduced the event that foreshadowed the Wrath of the Lich King (Arthas). The even brought with it, a plague that would infect any player or NPC in the game. Once the affected target had gone for 10 minutes without being cleansed, they would turn into a zombie. Of course, this gave players and opportunity to grief other players by spreading the disease to others.
All it took for an entire city like Stormwind or Orgrimmar to be overrun by zombies, was a small group of infected players, running around and attacking/exploding onto other players. As you can imagine, players took to the forums to complain about being attacked when they didn’t want to partake in the event. Furthermore, if you happened to get infected, you had to wait for the ten minute incubation period before going on to quest or explore, because once the 10 minutes expired, you would die.

I will admit, I took advantage of the zombie plague, and did my fair share of infecting people who didn’t want the disease. During the event, there was nothing more hilarious than running around Stormwind as a zombie, avoiding guards and laughing at the rage from other players. Yes, I fully admit to being a dick.
