Game of Thrones Countdown to Season 4: Day 69

Game of Thrones

Season 4

There are 69 days until the Game of Thrones season 4 premiere, and it almost seems like a lifetime. However, I’m here to try and ease the slow trickle of time until April. Roose Bolton, Lord of the Dreadfort and Lord of House Bolton, is today’s Countdown Character.

Lord Bolton was a Bannerman of House Stark, and he declared for Robb Stark when the Young Wolf began his campaign against the Lannisters. When Robb learned of Theon Greyjoy’s betrayal and sacking of Winterfell, it was Lord Bolton who sent his bastard son, Ramsey Snow, to capture Theon and take back the seat of the North.

Even though torture has been outlawed in the North, House Bolton is infamous for flaying men alive, so much in fact, that the flayed man is their House sigil. In fact, on several occasions, Robb Stark refused Lord Bolton’s attempts and suggestions at torturing captured Lannister soldiers.

In season three, Lord Bolton has been secretly plotting with House Frey of the Twins, and House Lannister, in order to assassinate Robb Stark and his Bannermen. When the Stark host attends Edmure Tully’s wedding at the Twins, it was Lord Bolton that drove the killing blow into the heart of The King in the North. Roose delivered the dagger strike with the now famous line, “The Lannisters send their regards”.  For his part in the Red Wedding, Tywin Lannister appointed Lord Bolton the Warden of the North, a title previously held by Lord Eddard Stark.

How do you think season four will unfold for Lord Bolton? Let me know in the comments below, and while you’re there, let me know who you would like to see as the next Countdown Character.
