Game of Thrones
The King Slayer, Jaime Lannister is our countdown character for day 51. Jaime is the eldest son of Lord Tywin Lannister, he is a twin brother of Cersei, and older brother to Tyrion. At age nine, Jaime lost his mother while she was giving birth to his younger brother, Tyrion. Tyrion was born a malformed dwarf, and while Cersei never forgave the infant for ‘killing their mother’, Jaime loved and protected his brother.
At age 11, Jaime went to Crakehall, where he served as a squire for Lord Sumner Crakehall. Jaime quickly and adeptly learned the art of war, and became an excellent swordsman. When he was 15, Jaime was knighted by Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning, after their group defeated the Kingswood Brotherhood.
Soon after his knighting, Jaime was made a member of the Kingsguard by Lord Commander Gerold Hightower, making him the youngest knight to be appointed to the honored position. During Robert Baratheon’s rebellion, Jaime was forced to stand silently by, as the Mad King raped and savaged Queen Raella, burned Lord Rickard Stark in his own armor, killed Brandon Stark, and plotted to burn King’s Landing in wildfire.
As Robert’s rebellion came to a close, and it became obvious that the usurper would depose the Mad King, Jaime drew his sword and slew Aerys, thus ending the Targaryen reign. Jaime became known as the King Slayer, a dishonorable mark against his name.
In season 3, Jaime is being brought to King’s Landing by Brienne of Tarth in order to trade him for the captive Stark girls. The two were captured by Roose Bolton’s men and taken to Harenhal. Along the way, Vargo Hoat cuts off Jaime’s sword hand. Jaime is treated by Qyburn, a dishonored maester. Once his infection was healed, Jaime sent to King’s Landing by Roose Bolton, in hopes of forging a relationship with House Lannister.
Where do you think Jaime’s story will go in season 4? Let me know in the comments below, and while you’re there, let me know who you would like to see as the next countdown character.
