Welcome once again, to World of Warcraft Throwback Thursday. As part of our ongoing expansion discussion, today’s throwback is all about Cataclysm.
On December 7, 2010, Blizzard released their 3rd expansion, and with it, a complete and entire overhaul of the World…of Warcraft. Cataclysm brought with it, a new level cap of 85, and two new playable races: The Worgen for the Alliance and Goblins for the Horde.
As part of the storyline, the continents of Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms, were redesigned to show the vast damage and destruction caused by Deathwing, who’s reemergence caused the Cataclysm. Because of the reconstruction, Blizzard implemented flying in these “Old World” zones.
Since Deathwing became the big-bad of Cataclysm, a new hero was needed. Thrall, the Warchief and leader of the Horde, stepped down as leader and made Garrosh Hellscream the new Warchief. Thrall sought to find a solution, through balance an harmony with the land. He traveled to Nagrand in Outland, in order to be trained by the Earthen Ring, in hopes to further his shamanistic skill.
Did you play Cataclysm? Where do you think it ranks on the list of World of Warcraft expansions. Let me know in the comments below, and while you’re at it, tell me what you would like to see as the next throwback Thursday.
