Game of Thrones
Asha Greyjoy is the only daughter of Lord Balon Greyjoy, Lord of Pyke and the Iron Islands. Asha (Yara in the HBO series) is the sister of Theon, and due to the fact that her older brothers were killed in her father’s uprising, and that Theon was fostered by Lord Eddard Stark at Winterfell, she is groomed as the heir to her father’s throne, the Seastone Chair.
Asha Greyjoy is described as a lean-attractive woman, with stern features and a thin face, although, this was not the case in her youth. She is brash and brave, and bold, and does not adhere to the old ways of women being subservient to men. She is the captian of her own ship, the Black Wind, and she is known throughout the Iron Islands as The Kraken’s Daughter. The title is born of the fact that House Greyjoy’s sigil is a golden Kraken on a field of black, and her father’s ship is named The Great Kraken; Asha is nothing, if not her father’s daughter.
When Robb Stark sent Theon Greyjoy home to the Iron Islands to garner support from Balon Greyjoy, it was Asha who met him under the guise of a shipwright’s wife. Theon did not recognize his sister, for they were both very young when they were seperated. In a truly cringe-worthy moment, Asha flirted with her brother, in order to find out what kind of man Winterfell had made of him. When Asha revealed her true self to Theon, he was understandably outraged. When Theon took Winterfell, Asha came to him and tried to convince him to leave, but Theon was too proud, and he decided to try and hold the northern stronghold. Theon was later betrayed by his own men, and taken captive by Ramsey Snow.
