Game of Thrones
Osha is a Wildling woman who was captured by Robb Stark in the Wolfswood near Winterfell. Before her capture in the Wolfswood, Osha was a spearwife of the Freefolk (another term for Wildling). Osha is described as a tall, lean woman with shaggy brown hair. Her body bears many scars, for which she is proud, claiming that she earned every one. Osha worships the Old Gods, a fact that helps to forge a bond between her and Bran Stark.
Osha is introduced in Game of Thrones, when she and a group of Wildlings come across Bran Stark in the Wolfswood. Osha, recognizing that Bran was the son of a Northern Lord, cautioned the group to take him to Mance Rayder, in order to ransom the boy for safe passage through the Wall. However, two of the men (deserters of the Night’s Watch), refused, wanting instead to ransom Bran for gold.
Robb, Theon Greyjoy, Summer and Grey Wind come to Bran’s rescue, killing all the Wildings except for Osha. Osha is taken back to Winterfell for questioning. At Winterfell, she is put in shackles and chains, and made to work with the kitchen staff. Not long after, Osha wins favor for her good behavior, and the chains are removed, but the shackles are left to remind her of her past crimes.
Osha and Bran quickly strike a friendship, as the two regularly cross paths in Winterfell’s godswood, where they both pray to the Old Gods beneath the Weirwood tree. When Theon Greyjoy betrayed the Starks and sacked Winterfell, Osha bent her knee to Theon, and he set her free. Using her new found freedom, Osha, along with Hodor and the Reeds, take Bran and Rickon Stark and secret them out of Winterfell.
At this point, the HBO series and the book series diverge. In the HBO series, Osha and Hodor escape with the two Stark boys and their direwolves, meeting the Reeds at some point outside of Winterfell. They travel together for some time, until it is decided that Osha will take Rickon and Shaggydog to House Umber. In the books, Osha takes Rickon and his direwolf, Shaggydog, and they head to the island of Skagos. The Reeds go with Hodor, Bran and Summer, as they seek the three eyed raven beyond the Wall.
What do you think Osha will do in season 4? Will we see her and Rickon as they travel to House Umber, or have we seen the last of her? Let me know what you think in the comments below, and while you’re there, tell me who you would like to see as the next countdown character.
