'Resident Evil 6' Set to be the Last Movie in the Franchise

In a recent interview with Collider, Resident Evil franchise director, Paul W.S. Anderson, talked about writing the script for the film, the working title, and what fans of the movie can expect.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the working title.  It may end up being the final title, but that’s what’s written on the front page of my script… I’m right in the middle of the first draft.”

The rumors that were swirling around Resident Evil 6, had the movie being released as early as this September…obviously that is not going to happen.

“I don’t know [when it will be in theaters], depends how fast I write, I guess.

There’s no set date yet but hopefully we’ll have an announcement for that soon.”
As far as when he will start shooting, Anderson had this to say:

“There are no set dates for shooting yet.  I think we’re waiting until we have a first draft screenplay and then go from there.”

Although Anderson did not go into detail about the synopsis of the final Resident Evil film, he did talk about shooting the movie in 3D.

“I firmly believe that you have to start thinking about the 3D even in the writing process.  You cannot make a great 3D movie by just—it’s not some special sauce that you can sprinkle on.  You make the dish and then you make hot sauce on top—it doesn’t work well like that.  Yes, you can do a last minute conversion.  You can not shoot the movie thinking about 3D and do a last minute conversion and it can be a 3D movie, it’s just not gonna be a great 3D movie.  I approach my films right from the inception, I kind of write action scenes and pick out locations that I think and know—because I’ve done so much of it—will translate very well into 3D.  Then when we build the sets, we build sets that I know will shoot well in 3D.  It’s really, even from this point, 3D is something I’m definitely thinking about.”

I am a fan of the Resident Evil movies, although the last 2 have been lacking. I’m a huge fan of Milla Jovovich, and and very happy about how she has pretty much carried the entire franchise on her back…she’s got good acting chops.

As much as I enjoy the Resident Evil movies, I don not, however, care for the 3D aspect. I tend to lean toward less 3D in my movies, I do not need the gimmicky nonsense that most 3D movies end up being. I also feel that it is way past time for the Resident Evil franchise to be put out to pasture, I mean, how many times do we need to be reminded that Alice is a clone, or for that matter, how many times has Alice actually been cloned?

What do you think of the working title for the last Resident Evil movie? Which one do think was the best of the franchise? Let me know in the comments below.
