Harry Potter Rap on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon has left the comfort of its New York studio for a week, and is on location in Orlando, Florida. Fallon and his staff are shooting on the Universal Orlando Park, promoting the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter Diagon Alley expansion.

While most are left scratching their head why he would go to an amusement park for kids, it makes total sense to me. If Jimmy wants longevity in this business, he needs to appeal to not only parents, but their teenagers as well. He is looking to attract to the very same teenagers who might become viewers in 10 or 12 years. Jimmy’s show might come on after the kids go to bed but if it’s a great show, the clips will be all over social media. Sort of like what happened this week on the show with the Harry Potter Rap.

Jimmy is making the most out of the new location. The guests and skits have focused on things about Florida but most are Harry Potter themed. The best by a mile has to be the Audience Suggestion Box skit of June 18th. Normally Jimmy likes to do his own sketches but this time he turned it over to Tarik and The Roots to perform the first ever Harry Potter rap song.

Jimmy mentions Tarik is a huge Harry Potter fan but from his reaction, I’m not buying it, which makes the joke even better. Tarik was willing to show off his well-documented rapping skills, and summed up a few of the Harry Potter books really well. I generally don’t like product placements in songs, TV shows, or movies, but this song was so entertaining, I didn’t care.

They could have easily done this all week and fans would have eaten it up. One thing Jimmy understands is the need to keep the audience wanting more. Rejoice Harry Potter fandom, you have your new theme song.

Do you think Jimmy is going to have the longevity Jay enjoyed? Would you buy the song if it was available for download? Let me know in the comments below.
