With the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes premiere just around the corner, the folks over at Screen Junkies has given their special treatment to what I consider the worst Planet of the Apes movie in the franchise. Honestly, I’m just surprised it took them this long, but I am glad they finally got around to it. Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes pretty much ruined the franchise for me. Watch the Honest Trailer below, and enjoy!
“When an Air Force captain abandons his orbital monkey research station to follow his pet chimp into an electrical storm, blah blah blah time travel, blah blah blah evil monkey society, blah blah blah uprising, ancient monkey prophecy, final battle, and the creepiest kiss ever.”
Yep, that pretty much explains it. Burton’s Planet of the Apes was not just bad, but it was cheap and tacky as well.
“a reboot so disappointing, the franchise was debooted then rebooted ten years later.”
If you haven’t seen Tim Burton’s version, then don’t watch it, because that line is absolutely on point. It took Rupert Wyatt and James Franco to revive what was quite possibly one of the greatest sci-fi franchises in cinema history. The lesson here is, don’t let Tim Burton anywhere near your movie franchise, or you’ll end up with Mark Wahlberg mouth-breathing all over your film.
What do you think? Was Burton’s Planet of the Apes the worst film in the franchise? Let me know in the comments below.
