Devin Faraci, the driving force behind one of the internet’s most often correct rumor mill, Badass Digest, claims to have the opening scenes and plot driving details for Star Wars Episode VII. So, if you want to steer clear of spoilers, then consider this your warning. And before we get started, let me say this, as rumors go, I do in fact tend to trust Badass Digest more than any other rumor site out there, so take that with a grain of salt, if you will.
Directly from Badass Digest:
“Imagine the standard Star Wars crawl, and when it ends the camera pans up to the stars. But instead of a spaceship zooming into frame we see… a hand! A severed hand, tumbling through space. A severed hand gripping a light saber.
That hand falls onto a desert planet, where it is discovered by characters who will be our heroes. One is Daisy Ridley. The other is John Boyega, who is playing someone trying to change his path in life (again, I’m keeping it vague here). They recognize the light saber as a Jedi relic and decide to return it to the proper people.
Their quest takes them off world, and they meet up with Han Solo and Chewbacca, who aren’t flying around in the Millenium Falcon anymore but are piloting…well, that could be a spoiler. I’ll leave it. Anyway, Han and Chewie recognize the light saber as Luke’s, and they say they haven’t seen their friend in thirty years, since the events of Return of the Jedi.
So begins a quest to find the missing Jedi Master. Meanwhile, on an ice planet, nefarious forces are building a super weapon, one capable of destroying not planets but entire solar systems”
There you have it, in true Star Wars fashion, another severed hand takes the forefront on driving a plot in the Star Wars universe…and I’m okay with that. I must admit to not really liking this rumored plot, at first, but after talking to my buddy, who happens to be a huge Star Wars fan, I am starting to come around.
This rumored plot does leave some pretty interesting questions. For instance, if Han and Chewie aren’t driving the Falcon, what ship are they piloting? Perhaps they are now some glorified chauffeurs for Leia, who could possibly be a high ranking Republic entity. Speaking of Leia, where is she, and why wasn’t she mentioned in this plot? We know for a fact that she is in the movie.
Another question is, where is Luke? If Han and Chewie haven’t seen him in 30 years, then has the assumed last remaining Jedi in the known galaxy, gone into some sort of hermitage type hiding, much like Master Yoda? Better yet, why is his hand still falling through space, attached to his lightsaber, and why didn’t it burn up on entry into the desert planet’s atmosphere?
BECAUSE IT’S STAR WARS AND IT HAS THE FORCE PROTECTING IT DUH!
